TikTok spoofs Google as the best website

It’s no surprise that the most popular website in the world tends to be Google.com. All over the world, people use Google every day to search for almost anything on the web. Most people I know have it as their homepage for quick searches. Even if they didn’t want to use it when opening a browser, it still loads. So, for good reason, most online website ranking tools are consistent enough to give Google the top spot in traffic most years.

That may well be changing, as the ranking of website traffic data for web security and optimization company CloudFlare (Thanks Gizmodo) for 2021 puts TikTok ahead of Google for the most popular domains. Last year, Google grabbed the top spot, and the new social media website was only in 7th spot. CloudFlare explains that TikTok first edged out Google for a day in February 2021 and has continued to do so here and there. It wasn’t until August that TikTok steadily beats Google in daily traffic.

CloudFlare includes more information about its rankings, which is why they are calculated by analyzing aggregate data and the results are a combination of popularity, percentage change in traffic patterns, and rank change over time. . Domains are grouped and displayed under their most popular version, and pornography and content servers have been excluded from the rankings. TikTok is also the only non-U.S. Company to make the top ten for CloudFlare, owned by Chinese parent company ByteDance.

This could be the reason why every other website ranking service I’ve checked doesn’t exactly agree with CloudFlare’s rankings, or at least not yet. Everyone still places Google.com firmly in the lead, followed by the usual suspects from Facebook and Amazon. RankRanger, for example, doesn’t show TikTok until position 69, where it had made a nice climb from position 187 to get there. SimilarWeb, which is posted on Wikipedia for website rankings, places TikTok 22nd as of November 1, 2021. Since TikTok is primarily used as an app, these sites may not take this data into account. , or some other factor that might make up that difference, or maybe they just haven’t quite caught up.

No matter where it is, TikTok is no joke when it comes to popularity. It has experienced strong growth during the pandemic which has seen its demographics shift from Gen Z mainly to countless people across the planet looking to connect and kill time. You can use it to check out the early prototypes of this designer from Half-Life or get a Fortnite Chapter 3 leak for yourself. The popularity has made it prolific for advertising, meaning that brands are also investing money in the platform, which only helps this growth, at least for now.
