The 44th Chess Olympiad will begin tomorrow; CM MK Stalin inspects arrangements


Chennai, Tamil Nadu News Live Updates Today: Ahead of the Inaugural Ceremony of the 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad tomorrow, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inspected the venue for the event today – the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi would inaugurate a big event attended by Governor of Tamil Nadu RN Ravi – and Poonjeri at Mamallapuram where the event would take place and reviewed the arrangements made for it. He also inaugurated an exquisite sculpture, carved by artisans from the state-owned Poompuhar (Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation) at the entrance to Mamallapuram.

Meanwhile, the Madras High Court prevented the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) from levying an increased amount of property tax. Judge Anita Sumanth granted the injunction while passing interim orders on a written petition from K Balasubramaniam of Teynampet here recently. The petition sought to rescind the property tax general review notice for 2022-23 dated June 28 of this year.

In other news, a A 17-year-old boy was found dead at his home near Karaikudi in Tamil Nadu’s Sivaganga district on Tuesday evening, the fifth case of suspected suicide among schoolchildren reported in the state this month. Police said they found an alleged suicide note in the house. Karaikudi Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dr Vinoji said the class 12 student at a private school was home alone when the incident happened.
