Texas, Michigan, California Top Industry Rankings


Texas, Michigan and California each landed top industry rankings in Business facilities’ 18th Annual Ranking Report. The 2022 ranking report recognizes states for their strength and appeal to specific industries, including semiconductors, automotive, and food processing.

Texas tops the list BFit is Semiconductors ranking as in 2021, with the top 5 completed by California, Arizona, Oregon and Minnesota, respectively.¹

“At the end of 2021, Texas landed its biggest foreign direct investment on record, and it’s no surprise that it came from the semiconductor industry,” commented BF Editorial Director, Anne Cosgrove. “After reviewing several locations in the United States for a potential site, Samsung Electronics, Co., Ltd. has selected Taylor, TX, for its new $17 billion semiconductor fab. Samsung chose Taylor and Texas based on several factors, including the local semiconductor ecosystem, infrastructure stability, and local government support.

For our Automotive ranking, Michigan retained its position as the top state for this industry, followed by Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee.

This year’s leader food preparation is again California, followed by Texas, Arkansas, Georgia and Maryland.
