Six Foreign Players in the Top 20 in the Combined Rankings of the IXL Global Crossword Competition | India News


PATNA: Venkatraghavan Sahasranaman from Mumbai and Mohsin Ahmed from Bangalore respectively occupy the top two positions in Rank 4 at the end of the weekly online fourth round of the Global Crossword Competition, Indian Crossword League 2021 (IXL). Both are former champions of the competition. Mohsin is followed by Arvind Ramaswamy from Pune in 3rd position.
Philip Coote of Canberra, Australia, and Ramki Krishnan of Chennai, who held the top spots in previous rounds, are at number 4 and 5 respectively.
Three competitors – Samit Kallianpur from Secunderabad, Sureash Dorbala from Visakhapatnam and Himanshu Rajurkar from London – made their first entry into the top 10.
Besides Philip and Himanshu, Koh Teen Sween Kenny from Singapore is another overseas candidate in this category.
Philip and Ramki, however, are first and second respectively in the cumulative standings with Venkatraghavan at number 3 followed by Koh. With Sowmya Ramakumar from Manama, Bahrain, at number 13; Anicha Reuben from Juelich, Germany, aged 16; Himanshu from London at 19; and Vasant Srinivasan from Rayong Province, Thailand, at 20, the cumulative ranking has six foreign players in the top 20.
“There will be six more weekly rounds online before the top 30 of the cumulative standings are called up for the year-end offline grand final in Bangalore. The fifth weekly online round will begin on October 17 at 11 am, ”Amitabh Ranjan, chief operating officer (COO) of the Patna-based organization Extra-C, which is running the competition, told TOI on Saturday.
“A participant can enter the contest at any time and free registration will remain open until the start of the 10th and last weekly online round. A participant who tops one of the weekly rounds automatically qualifies for the grand final, ”said Ranjan.
Previously, the competition was launched on September 19 by the director of the National Administration Academy Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBSNAA) Srinivas Katikithala.
“Every Sunday, a new index grid is posted on the site at 11 am (IST). The deposit of responses is open until 11:59 p.m. (IST) the following Wednesday. Points are awarded for both the correct number of responses and the time of submission. A lap ranking and a cumulative ranking are formed at the end of each round, ”said the COO of the Extra-C.
