Helps businesses across the region

Vermont Business Magazine It’s been just over six months since the North East Kingdom Chamber of Commerce set up a Business Help Center to offer personalized advice to businesses in the region, and the response to this enhanced service has been encouraging. More than 50 businesses and entities across the Northeast Kingdom have already contacted the chamber for assistance, as the organization continues to increase its workforce development and business advocacy in the tri-county area.

The chamber has always worked with businesses, assisting them with such issues, but the chamber felt it necessary to extend this assistance in light of the additional business advice needed during this latest economic downturn and the ongoing pandemic, said NEK chamber director Darcie McCann.

NEK Chamber Executive Director Darcie McCann holds a sample of the businesses the chamber has helped through its Business Help Center. The BAC was instituted last year to help overcome barriers that stand in the way of business success.

The chamber’s long-standing toll-free number, 800-639-6379, has been moved to the Business Assistance Center to encourage more business people across the region to seek more help. The chamber office will also be adding more posts to its new Facebook page, the Northeast Kingdom Business Forum, where news and updates can be posted on and about businesses. The NEK Chamber is also a notary public and provides certificate of origin services to member companies shipping products overseas.

“As a chamber, our main objective has always been to improve the economic landscape of our region, and the Business Assistance Center is a very concrete way to help our business community solve the many problems related to the work flowing through their desks,” McCann said. “We want to be a strong advocate for addressing the concerns they face.”

The NEK chamber is located on the Lyndon Institute campus in the Mathewson Hall building. Business people who wish to contact the chamber for assistance can do so at 802-626-5594/748-3678 or [email protected] Businesses do not need to be chamber members to receive such assistance and the service is free.

“We may not be able to solve all the problems that businesses may encounter, but we will do our best to help them achieve the best possible result and remove the obstacles that hinder their success,” she said. .

The director clarified that the chamber will continue to work with local, regional and state economic development agencies and entities on ways to better serve the Kingdom’s business community and economy.
