BALTIMORE (WJZ) – Nearly 40 cities in Maryland are included in a new ranking of America’s Best Small Towns. While the hustle and bustle of big cities like Baltimore or Washington, DC is appealing to some, Old Line State offers plenty of options for residents to slow down.
WalletHub’s study examines affordability, safety, local economy, healthcare and more in more than 1,300 small towns ranging from local restaurants to schools.

Six cities in Maryland ranked among the best on the list, falling in the 20th percentile. These cities are:
- Bethesda, at the 93rd percentile;
- Annapolis, at the 89th percentile;
- FrÃ©dÃ©ric, at the 87th percentile;
- Rockville, at the 86th percentile;
- Olney, at the 82nd percentile
- and Ellicott City, in the 80th percentile.

Baltimore County is well represented on the list. Towson, Randallstown, Reisterstown, Essex, Parkville and Catonsville have all been ranked by the website.

Some towns in Maryland further down the list include Hagerstown, Waldorf, Edgewood, Salisbury, and Laurel.
The top three small towns in America, according to WalletHub, are Sammamish, Washington; Carmel, Indiana and Brentwood, Tennessee.
