Mayor Byron Brown, AT&T and The Exchange at Beverly Gray announced HyperLink Buffalo Powered by AT&T, a new initiative that forms partnerships between local advertising agencies and minority-owned small businesses in the city of Buffalo to help reduce the digital divide.
“During the height of COVID-19, many brick-and-mortar businesses shifted to online sales while others were forced to close. Even though brick-and-mortar stores have reopened after the vaccine, there are still increased numbers of consumers who buy products and services online,” Brown said. “Unfortunately, some small businesses lacked the resources to establish new revenue streams from e-commerce. HyperLink Buffalo Powered by AT&T aims to ensure that every business in every part of this community has equal access to online revenue streams.
HyperLink Buffalo Powered by AT&T’s goal is for local advertising agencies to help minority-owned small businesses build strong online presence and e-commerce capabilities. Partner advertising and marketing agencies are encouraged to provide free services to participating minority-owned businesses, including social media promotion, digital advertising, website design or redesign, e-commerce development, and marketing. search engine optimization. AT&T contributed $15,000 to this initiative to help with the required costs associated with running an online marketplace, in addition to free services offered by local advertising agencies.
The City of Buffalo has developed a survey for minority-owned businesses to help them identify their digital needs in today’s market. Minority-owned businesses that respond to the survey will have the opportunity to be matched with a partner local advertising agency to enhance their online presence. There have already been 11 local advertising agencies that have committed to offer their services for this initiative. So far, the participating advertising agencies are:
