Akron Roller Derby prepares home opener for Saturday


AKRON, Ohio — The first Akron Roller Derby home fight of the season is scheduled for Saturday, April 16 at Summit County Fairgrounds, 1100 North Ave., Tallmadge.

Doors open at 5 p.m., with the Akron Roller Derby All-Stars hitting the track at 6 p.m., followed by the Akron Roller Derby AK Rowdy Rollers at 7:45 p.m.

The league features two teams: the Akron Roller Derby All-Stars, who compete for regional and national rankings, and the AK Rowdy Rollers, an intermediate team that competes against B teams from other leagues, but not for rankings. The Akron Roller Derby All-Stars are ranked at or around 153rd out of 368 leagues in the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association rankings, according to the team’s website.

Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, not including service charges. Tickets at the door are $12 for adults and $7 for children. Children 4 and under are free.

Spectators should use the Route 91 (North Avenue) entrance to the fairgrounds. The physical address of the building where the fighting is taking place is 229 E. Howe Rd.

Additional home fights are scheduled for June 11 and July 9 at the fairgrounds.
